Russia to suspend air travel with UK on Tue for week

MOSCOW, Dec 21 (PRIME) -- Russia will suspend air travel with the U.K. on Tuesday for one week, a spokesperson for the government’s response center on prevention of the spread of coronavirus told reporters on Monday.

“The response center to prevent the importation and spread of the new coronavirus infection has decided to temporarily suspend flights with the U.K. due to the worsening epidemiological situation. The restrictions will come into effect from 00:00 a.m. on December 22, 2020 (Tuesday) and will be in effect for a week,” the statement said.

On December 19, E.U. countries began unilaterally closing borders with the U.K. in a bid to prevent the import of the new strain, which is believed to transmit 70% faster than the original coronavirus.
